The Essence of Courage | JDMessinger

Courage is an act of doing, not thinking. It is necessitated by a fear and acted upon from desire. This is the essence of courage.

Being brave does not mean we have no fear. By definition it means there is fear, but we do it anyway because our desire overcomes the fear.

Fear comes from the head - fear of being embarrassed or losing an attachment for example - but the desire which pulls us forward and drives us toward action in the face of fear is a powerful force that comes from our heart. This heartfelt desire is ultimately a form of love - for family or friends, a creative passion, or a virtue like justice, truth, or freedom.

When your spiritual right, a God given right that is a unique part of your DNA--to be free, fight for justice, have a home, family, job or equality--whatever you're craving--comes calling, resistance is futile. If you ignore this calling you are literally fighting an innermost need. When this need is suppressed it will manifest itself in your throat, chest, head or stomach. You will then fill that need with whatever you can put your hands on, including drugs, sex, smoking, drinking, or a pill prescribed by the doctor. This provides you instant gratification.

But your soul is craving satisfaction, not gratification. Satisfaction lasts a lifetime and fills a need from your heart. Gratification lasts a short time and fills a need from your head. What the doctors don't tell you, because they either don't know or don't care, is that they are only treating the symptom. If it continues for too long, the elixir will become a habit and the emptiness you feel inside for not exercising this deep spiritual right to act will become a habit. And before you know it, you are hooked on gratification. The longer the addiction, the more you will need.
This is the essence of courage.

The fear is a precursor, alerting you to a higher calling. Once you recognize this, you can see it. When you act on it, say to yourself, "I feel the fear and you are in my head. But my heart is telling me I need to do this and although I love you ego and brain, I don't need you right now. I'm going to face the fear and follow my heart." In closing, if you pray to God asking for courage, be prepared to face your greatest fears. He doesn't give you courage, you have to earn that. He helps you face your fears so you can become courageous. You can do it. As you read this, you feel it. You know it to be true. God bless you along The Way. This is part of the way.

Don't Believe The Naysayers, Believe in Youself | JDMessinger

Everything great I ever did, an army said I couldn't do it. That's right. I was told by my guidance counselor I could never get into the Naval Academy. He was incorrect. I was one of 37 Distinguished Graduates in a class of 966. It's called determination.

Admiral Rickover told me I wasn't good enough to be in his nuclear power program. I told him he was wrong, and that I would be one of the best submarine officers he ever had. He threw me out of the office, but took me because I didn't crack under pressure. It's called courage.

Tip Sheet for 11 Days in May as Personal Transformation | JDMessinger

We all have challenges, present company not excluded. November proved to be a challenging month but I just did something that helped me refocus and recharge: I edited the Tip Sheet For Personal Transformation.

I found it not only refreshing, but a wonderful reminder to remain present and see all the good in every interaction. Remember, at the end of the day, the purpose of living is to discover who you are, and why you are here. Then, after you have discovered your essence, believe it, and use it, to do what you love and love what you do! Have a great day and don't let the rocks weigh you down.

Peace, JD
